Ryan Wright

Ryan Wright joined the Comstock Fire Department as a firefighter in 2017. He was inspired by his family, who had previously served on fire service in Kalamazoo, as well as an uncle on the department.

One of his biggest individual inspirations may be his great uncle, Bob Dunfield, who served as a Kalamazoo firefighter for more than 55 years. Bob passed away while Ryan was attending fire academy, and he wears a sticker with his great uncle’s department number on his helmet as a way of keeping his great uncle where he loved to be.

Upon being hired, Ryan found a demanding schedule for newcomers. He said he was challenged, but driven by passion to do what was required to become the best firefighter he could.

Ryan also serves as a pump mechanic for Parker Hannifin. He’s also a competitive powerlifter who mentors school sports and any students who might be interested in becoming firefighters themselves.
